So a previous owner of the ‘stang chose to fit a Spectre intake to the thing, no problem, but judging by the condition of the filter it was a few years ago, and much of the rubber around the filter neck had perished - so I replaced it at the first chance I got.

When I took it off, it was much worse than I initially thought, especially on the underside of the filter.

Ewwwww.

Anyway. Luckily, a quick inspection of the intake pipe showed no signs that it had eaten filter material, so I slapped the new shiny filter on there and she’s good to go!

I eventually want to replace the intake with a Ford Racing kit & a tune, or at least one with a better heat shield, when funds allow.

I’ve never understood why people waste money on those intakes. They don’t actually flow much if at all better than the stock airbox, and pull way more hot air from underhood than the stock one. The factory airbox is far more of a cold-air intake than practically any aftermarket “cold air” intake.

I think it’s mostly because loud noises.

My understanding is that the cheaper ones for the mustang have a restrictor in them, to prevent the MAF sensor from getting confused, and as a result will never make any real power - whereas the pricier ones, which require a tune - recalibrate the airflow settings and will a little more power.
